We went bicycling and saw lots of wildlife (alligators, snakes, spoonbills, ibis, egrets, herons)! There is no shade, so it's best to enjoy during the cooler months! There are cars allowed on some of the trails and when they pass kick up a lot of dust so be prepared to be covered with a fine white powder.

Fun marsh to visit for outdoor activities. You can bird watch and fish. It's very thick marsh in most places so you need a mud boat to get through. Some people use canoes but can't get in very far. They allow duck hunting a few times per year but by permit only. They check every boat that comes in. There is ample parking and they have basic boat ramps. Plenty of grass to park on along the Waters edge.

This is a fantastic spot for bird watching. I had no idea that Roseate Spoonbills gather here to breed and roost. There are dozens of them, making for a spectacular sight. You can also see Great Egrets in full breeding plumage during their breeding season, snail kites, bald eagles, American Kestrals, red shouldered hawks, countless duck and waterfowl/wading bird species, and a number of other amazing birds.

It is a lovely piece of what old Florida marsh should be with abundant bird life along with all manner of other wildlife....come out on a thursday and take some great pictures.

The 6.5 mile road in is rough , very rough . Gravel and sand, washboard. but you will be rewarded with some Roseate Spoonbills.

We came here on a Monday so almost nobody was around. We loved how diverse this preserve is and grateful for all the hard work out into creating it! We saw lots of large herons and Spoonbills (adults and fledglings), swallows, coots, gallinules, red-winged black birds and great sizes and varieties of egrets! Enjoyed it so much. Thank you!

This is in my top 3 favorite places to go fishing. It's a little out of the way but that's what I like about it,Sometimes there are more birdwatchers than fishermen and women. It's absolutely beautiful and hasn't changed since my dad brought me here back in the sixties. When St John's Water Management has the gate open you can drive down the levee and fish in the ponds back there,A lot of folks don't know about that. If you like tilapia or Nile perch as us old crackers call em there are plenty plus those armored catfish in the ditches along the road you can catch with a castnet,but don't stay back there past 4 pm because they lock the gates,So have fun and watch out for the gators!

Amazing birding, especially during March breeding season. We saw probably 100+ of both Roseate Spoonbills and Anhingas nesting, some with chicks in the nests. Easily seen from the dike road with binoculars, great views with spotting scope.
